Women Makers was created from a simple but powerful belief: when women are given the space, tools, and support to create, they build more than skills — they build confidence, opportunity, and lasting impact.
At its core, Women Makers is a community-driven platform supporting women through skills training, wellbeing programs, business support, and shared spaces for learning and connection. It exists for women at different stages of their journey — whether they are exploring a new skill, building a creative practice, growing a business, or simply seeking community.
Women Makers is not one thing. It is a series of programs, gatherings, and initiatives designed to meet women where they are and help them move forward with intention.
Across creative and entrepreneurial spaces, women often carry the weight of expectation without access to the same visibility, resources, or support systems. Skills are learned in isolation. Ideas remain small. Creative work goes unseen.
Women Makers was founded to change that.
The platform was built to create access — access to knowledge, mentorship, wellbeing support, and economic opportunity — while fostering a strong sense of belonging. Rather than focusing on one outcome, Women Makers supports the full picture of growth: learning, making, earning, and sustaining.
Women Makers delivers its mission through a range of annual programs and community initiatives, including:
Each program is designed to be practical, inclusive, and rooted in real experience — led by women who understand the realities of building, creating, and sustaining work over time.
What sets Women Makers apart is its emphasis on community over competition. The platform brings together makers, mentors, facilitators, partners, and supporters who believe that shared knowledge and collaboration are essential to long-term growth.
Women Makers is intentionally cross-disciplinary. It welcomes women working across crafts, creative industries, services, wellness, and enterprise — recognizing that value is created in many forms.
Women Makers was founded by Winifred Okpapi-Owu, a creative producer and program director with a deep commitment to women-led growth, cultural work, and community-building.
Driven by years of experience working across creative and development spaces, Winifred envisioned a platform that moves beyond inspiration and into action — one that supports women not only to dream, but to build sustainably.
Under her leadership, Women Makers has grown into a collaborative ecosystem shaped by the voices, skills, and experiences of the women it serves.
Women Makers is still evolving — and that is intentional. Each program, conference, and initiative builds on what came before, responding to the needs of the community and the realities women face today.
As the platform grows, its focus remains the same: to create space for women to learn, create, connect, and thrive — together.
This blog will serve as a place to share stories, reflections, program highlights, and insights from across the Women Makers community. If you are here, you are part of that story.
